ACME TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled that the Grand Traverse County prosecutor may pursue an investigation into retailer Meijer Inc. related to an effort to recall Acme Township officials.
The decision was made Thursday and released Friday. The court says Prosecutor Alan Schneider may probe whether the Grand Rapids-based company tampered in the recall effort for those who objected to a superstore development.
The ruling overturns an earlier decision by a Grand Traverse circuit judge.
Schneider told The Grand Rapids Press that he expects Meijer to appeal, but says he will prevail. John Pirich, a lawyer for Meijer, said he disagreed with the court's ruling and an appeal is being considered.
The state fined Meijer last year for violating campaign laws.
