(AP) -- Michigan lawmakers are ready to resume working on the state's budget problems. The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled Tuesday to discuss budget bills related to higher education and community health for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1. The Democrat-led House has not been agreeing with some of the spending cuts in budget bills approved by Republicans who run the Senate.
Several bills for specific state departments likely will end up in conference committees where members of the House and Senate will try to reach a compromise. Michigan's state government has anticipated deficits for both the current budget year and the one that starts Oct. 1.
But schools might be able to avoid further budget cuts based on better-than-expected sales tax revenues.
