CARSON CITY (AP) -- Authorities say five inmates on a work detail from Michigan's Carson City Correction facility attacked a guard and escaped in a prison van. They were recaptured soon after.
State prisons spokesman Russ Marlan says the guard was hospitalized with serious injuries.
TV stations WZZM and WOOD say it happened Tuesday in the Montcalm County community, about 45 miles north-northeast of Grand Rapids.
The state police Lakewood post is handling the search and investigation. A trooper said it would issue a statement later and didn't have immediate comment.
The Lansing State Journal says the prisoners were caught soon after in the Eaton County area.
