When medical marijuana became legal in Michigan, John Roberts applied for cards right away.

“I've been treating myself with medical marijuana for over 9 years,” says the Tri-City Compassion Club leader.  “I have a chronic liver disorder and its improved my life immensely.”

He's now using his experience to grow marijuana for himself and five patients. It is a timely process, so when several weeks ago someone broke into his facility and stole his crop-- he and his patients felt devastated.

He called police, but the thieves got away.  He’s since spent a lot of money on a new security system to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Roberts isn't the only caretaker who has been robbed.  He suspects someone followed him from a compassion club meeting.

“I am at the compassion club.  I'm known to be a caregiver, and that is a possibility.”

He’s warning other caretakers and patients to be cautious.

"Am I supposed to be understanding and look the other way just because you have some sort of ailment? "

Um...yes? How is my (and others like me) condition any different than someone elses? So, just becuase im on cannabis (by my doctors ORDER) I should not get the same respect as any other patient? Boy, you are WAAAAAAAAY out there my friend. When you decide to come back from LALA land Ill be glad to speak with you but until then enjoy your fantasy

Maybe Mr. Sitzema should get his head out of his rear.

That would relieve the pressure on his spine and his hands would'nt be numb anymore. It's people like him that are ruining it for those who would rather go home and smoke a joint to relax as opposed to getting blotto on alcohol. People should be able to do what they want within the confines of their own home, and if that includes smoking a joint after work, so be it.

"P.S. maybe you should try smoking a joint..you won't be so grumpy and po'd at the world."

I love it when people I’m "discussing" an issue with run out of talking points so they try to attack me directly. This person is a perfect example of this. Talk about a discriminatory statement, Jeeze. This would be like me saying go out and shoot your neighbor you’ll feel better. Absurd. Why don’t you try dealing ONLY with the facts and check your facts before you post as I am not the one looking the fool. I am not grumpy but yes I am pissed off by people like you with your boatload of ignorance.

Hmmm...........

Well now if you had posted this response in the first place instead of accusing my and others like me of killing others and selling drugs to kids I’m sure you would have had a much different response. As to what happened to your hands with your experience, since there is not enough actual research out there yet I cannot say one way or the other but I’d be very very inclined to say is was not from the cannabis. To date, this is the 1st I have ever heard of anything like your describing. Perhaps that night you lay wrong and pinched a nerve in your sleep. The point I’m making here is you do not know what caused your issue and a blanket statement like yours isn’t factual as you have no facts other than what you "saw" at the time. As to others saying it doesn’t harm anyone, I’ll hold my response until we have enough research to definitively say either way but as of now my opinion is no, it has very little harm. I understand your view that drugs are bad but again I say it is not the drugs but the people that have not been educated that are bad. Blanket statements are just as bad as you cannot say that everyone is a drug dealer selling to kids as you have no way of proving that nor are there any facts to fall back on in this respect. Please take the time to read up on the current science out there. Talk to patients that it has helped. As to those that choose to sell their meds on the street...they should be treated as anyone else caught selling their meds on the street but don’t throw the baby out to.

As someone who is pro medical marijuana it pains me to see people bickering back and forth about how evil I am and how marijuana is going to be the cause of the world ending. However, I take solace in knowing that there are more that are like me than not. The bill passed by a two thirds vote. The people have spoken and will speak again when it comes time to legalize marijuana completely. For those that are against marijuana, I can say that I respect your opinion, but you are now in the minority. You have lost the battle and no matter how much you demonize me and people like me you will never win. I don't deal drugs to school kids, nor am I a rapist, serial killer, or any kind of leach on society. I work hard to support my family and when I get home from work I like to smoke a fat joint to relieve the days stress. You can moan and groan all you'd like but we are winning the war and you'll just have to deal with it.
P.S. maybe you should try smoking a joint..you won't be so grumpy and po'd at the world.

There is a reason why I am so adament about this issue.

Look, I am a normal individual like everyone else. I'm 35, educated, a wife, 2 kids, dog. I love to hunt, and play with the wife and kids. I believe in and support the Constitution 100%.
Back in the mid-nineties, I smoked MJ on several occasions with a friend. On my third try, we smoked a generous portion of it. Afterward I drove home, (seriously impared but I made it) and on the next day I discovered that something had happened to me. I had a tingling sensation in my hands that would not leave me for over a year. I would put my hands in my pockets and would not be able to tell you what was in them because the tingling was so pronounced. I know MJ can cause problems because I experienced them. It angers me greatly when people like Bigstick say it's not harmful when I know they are lying. They are only interested in being able to get high without repercussions. They don't care if anyone gets hurt in the process. I make no apologies for being so "in your face" on this issue, but I hope this helps you to understand where I am coming from.

where evil people like you have been murdering other people in cold blood, would it?"

That was a horrible comment to make, totally unwarranted and had nothing to do with the article. I don't smoke dope, but I would rather run into "Chet" in a dark alley than someone like you, who is committed to their hatred to a degree of deliberately hurting other people. (Trying to call the cops on him and his family, when he is breaking no laws? That is vengeful and nothing more.) It's people like you that scare me, the ones who are fanatical in their beliefs. I think history has shown those are the people that tend to go off the deep end.....Yeah I would definetly turn and run if you were coming towards me.

Good thing we can vote people like you out of office as you base your opinions on falsehoods, lies and misdirection by our own government. When good people close their minds to the obvious it is a very sad day in America. I have yet to see you post a single fact that can be verified to back your ranting. I on the other hand have well over 17000 double blind studies from which to pull my facts from. I would strongly suggest that you do a bit of light reading tonight to "brush up" on your "facts". If the majority (and all major ones) of the medical professional groups in the USA (and around the world) back this in one form or another who are you to say they are lying and pushing a dangerous drug on kids? And how can you say that I am doing the same? I know for a fact I have not meet you which means you haven’t meet me. As usual from your side of the fence....the holes keep getting bigger and the people on your side look more the fool.

Yes, I do hate it.

Posted by Mr. Sitzema, Charlevoix - Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 10:04 a.m.

Why shouldn't I be as adament as I am, when people who grow this junk try to push it on kids all the time. Am I supposed to be understanding and look the other way just because you have some sort of ailment? I am very spiteful when people try to wrap up a vice in some sort of moral righteous virtue. You and other growers are willing to sacrifice the futures of millions of other people who could get addicted to this substance just so that you can get your high. Where is your personal responsibility?

Posting for spite to Washington State MEP.....

Well well now we see the type of person you really are. Why on earth would you want to put me and my family in direct danger (I have an 11 year old daughter), when I am fully disabled patient(for over 15 years now) having to make the daily decision of whether to stay on this planet or not due to the side effects and pain from my injuries? You really hate cannabis (and those that use it) so much that you would persecute those that don’t agree with you? I don’t think I need to go any farther here.

P.S. My addy and everything is available in the phone book....as I said totally transparent

not an acusation?!?

I don’t know where you went to school but where I come from this IS an accusation and if I had not addressed it, it would have done exactly what you wanted it to do. Try doing some background checking on me, you'll see I am fully disabled (almost 15 years now) and exactly why I am in this situation. Don't knock us untill you've lived in our shoes as no one...NO ONE can know what we are going through unless that person suffers from it as well.

There was a news special...

Posted by Mr. Sitzema, Charlevoix - Monday, November 16, 2009 at 2:14 p.m.

about Washington State describing what the MMJ law has done to increase crime and murder due to drug dealers and thiefs. While you are evil for selling an illegal product, I didn't mean to say you were a murderer, unless you are admitting to something.
And your assessment of me being a little spiteful was right on, because I did try to submit your name to the Washington State MEP. Can you believe they don't have a direct link and won't accept calls from out of area?
And the fact is by selling/distributing your product you are making it easier for kids to obtain MJ. It is pure economics, an increase in supply leads to a decrease in price, which leads to an increase in demand.

Mr. Sitzema, Charlevoix WHAT?!?!?!

Posted by Chet Biggerstaff, Tricities WA - Monday, November 16, 2009 at 9:47 a.m.

So you are making the accusation that I am killing people? Man, whatever it is you’re on you really need to get some help. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard (next to us selling to school kids and such nonsense). All I read from you post is that you a spiteful idiot.

Robin N. of Mt Morris Township commented on the Unrelenting Widespread Hardcore Robbery and Violence that is plaguing ares like Flint and Saginaw.

It is a shame, but, unfortunately, this will keep on happening because the Depraved and Insolent unguided Cowardly wanna-be "Gangsters"-- They Know that Nobody is going to Do anything about it. They know that 9 out of 10 people are going to keep wishing and praying and hoping that the madness and ruthlessness will end.

We, as Civilians, can hope and pray in one hand, and then we can learn to defend our Homes with the other hand... then watch to see which option keeps our Loved Ones and Property safe and secure.

Our Faith will keep our Minds safe and straight, but faith is not going to keep our loved ones alive and well, and hope will not keep those mean and inconsiderate thieves and gunmen off of the streets.

We need Protection for our Families and our Homes. Be prepared to Defend your home and your life because the law of the jungle seems to have become the law of the land.

I am Not going to go Out looking for trouble;... but if trouble comes Into my house, God help them.

Hello for Tricities as well :)

Posted by Chet Biggerstaff, Tricities WA - Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 8:59 a.m.

Tricities WA that is heh. I had to do a double take this morning when I read this as I run a collective here in our Tricities WA. This news comes on the heels of a ripoff of one of our patients as well on Tuesday this week. What I sugested to everyone growing in our collective is to NEVER leave your crop unattended when its getting into the "pretty stage" (the stage when most people start pulling thier plants becuase they "look" good but are not ready for several more weeks. Investing in a good alarm is a good idea but even better is a pack of large dogs like mine ;) I grew 16 plants outside this year and even put up a tent to scare off would be theives but it was the dog pack that kept them away this year :)

What did you expect!

Posted by Robin N., Mt/Morris Township - Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 8:33 a.m.

I live in Genesee county and during the last few years the paper has reported the following:
Criminals have pulled up manhole covers and storm gratings, sawed the catalytic converters off cars and removed the brass vases off graves, they took a school bus out of the transportation yard in Flint with the intention of scrapping that out for the metal but later it was found in Pontiac!
While people were at work they sawed down and took away the hardwood trees located in their yards and managed to steal gas from a local golf course and siphon 25 gallons out of a sherrifs boat while parked in their launch!
WHAT ON EARTH MAKES YOU THINK THESE GUY'S ARE NOT GOING TO ROB AND SHOOT UP THE HOMES AND COMPASSION CLUBS OF THE PEOPLE RAISING AND SELLING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF DOPE?
