TAYLOR (AP) -- Police say a man standing on a Norfolk Southern Railway line in the Detroit suburb of Taylor was struck and killed by a freight train.

Police detective John MacDonald says the 46-year-old Taylor man was hit about 8:20 a.m. Thursday while standing on the tracks.

MacDonald says the crew repeatedly blew the horn to warn the man, but he didn't react.

The westbound train was nearly a mile long. The man's name wasn't immediately released.

Police say no one else was hurt.
