(AP) -- A group representing road builders says lawmakers need to act soon to raise more money for Michigan roads or risk seeing more fall apart.
The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association put out a list Monday of cities and counties with the largest amount of bad roads. Detroit led the list, followed by Grand Rapids.
Wayne, Oakland and Genesee counties had the most miles of roads in poor condition. Oceana, Osceola and Calhoun counties had the largest percentage of roads in poor condition - over 50 percent.
The group's president, Mike Nystrom, says legislative leaders need to take steps to raise more money to fix Michigan roads so the state won't lose federal matching funds starting in 2011.
He adds that road systems are collapsing "because funding continues to plummet."
