At least 1 injured in plant explosion

MARYSVILLE -- NBC25's Detroit affiliate, WDIV, is reporting a major explosion.

There are several injuries at South Park Welding Supply Plant after several explosions on Monday morning. The business is located on Gratiot Boulevard near the Port Huron and Marysville city line.

The plant is on fire and nearby neighborhoods are evacuating.

Marysville Police Chief Tim Buelow said an employee was removing a valve from a settling tank when it expoded. He said several tanks exploded and glass and metal flew across the room.

Firefighters from Marysville, Port Huron and Port huron Township are all on the scene. Smoke can be seen for miles.

Gratiot Boulevard is closed.
