UPPER PENINSULA -- It's nothing to write home about, but the Upper Peninsula's unemployment dropped slightly from August to September.
The September jobless figure was 11.5 percent, down from 11.7 percent in September.
Michigan's overall jobless rate in September, according to the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth, also declined slightly--from 14.8 percent to 14.7 percent.
The really good news for the U.P.: five of the top 15 counties in the state are located here. Mackinac County is number one with a 6.1 percent unemployment rate.
Marquette County is seventh at 10.1 percent; Houghton County is eighth at 10.2 percent; Delta County is 14th at 11.5 percent; and Chippewa County is 15th at 11.6 percent.
The bad news? Baraga County still has the highest jobless rate in the state at 24.3 percent.
