Midland will host the 2008 USA Women’s Olympic Softball Team this summer.  The 2008 USA Women’s Olympic Softball Team will play the Midland Lady Explorers at 3 p.m. June 21 in Currie Stadium at Emerson Park.  Midland will be one of 50 tour stops made by the 2008 USA Women’s Olympic Softball Team as part of the “Bound 4 Beijing” Tour.  After playing over 60 games against NCAA Division I opponents, Regional All-Star teams and International Competition, the 2008 USA Women’s Olympic Softball Team will travel to the Olympics where they will be competing for the their fourth consecutive gold medal.

“Our community has an exciting opportunity,” said Brian Rodgers, Board Chair of the Midland Area Community Foundation. ‘Our Lady Explorers will play the 2008 USA Women’s Olympic Softball Team and our community will have the opportunity to watch it live, right here in Midland.”

Softball will cease to be a medal sport in the Olympics after this year, so for the foreseeable future, this is the last Olympic Softball Team.  Rodgers commented, “This is last possible year for an opportunity like this.  We are so pleased to be able to bring this to the residents of Midland and to host such talented athletes in our city.”

Tickets will be available free of charge on a first come first served basis in April.  For ticket and event information, see the Midland Area Community Foundation website at www.midlandfoundation.org
