Tarps and rollers took the place of basketballs at the Flint Y.W.C.A Thursday.

Volunteers from the Home Depot on Corruna Road and students from Kettering University painted the gym.

It's their present to the non-profit organization as it celebrates its 100th birthday.

Leaders with the Y.W.C.A. says all the work would have cost thousands.

That is money the organization does not have.

Volunteers say they're happy to help out and move Mid-Michigan forward.

"I'm part of a Kettering group, Kettering Engineers Without Borders. We're doing a project in Mexico right now to help a community. It's nice to have a chance to do it here in Flint," says Matt Schwartz with Kettering University.

Volunteers also painted the building's child development center rooms, and the safe house.
