It was a packed room at University of MIichigan Flint's University Center with nearly two hundred people showing up to catch the only televised showdown between Mayor Don Williamson and challenger Dayne Walling...

From laughing to applause, everyone listened closely sizing up the candidates like Flint resident and Walling supporter Bruce Macdonald who thought williamson bombed "he came off as tired and incoherent and evasive." However MacDonald thought Walling shined, "he was to the point. He's got a lot more vision and he's more direct."

Williamson supporter Joyce Lee tells NBC 25 News even though Walling may be a better public speaker, his inexperience shows through too much, "he doesn't have the experience to work with the different councilman and knowing where their affiliates lie and how to get everybody to work on the same page."

Flint resident Dick Kraft doesn't think Williamson knows how to do that either. "He's an excellent businessman when he can dictate everything, but to run the city you need partnerships.  That's something Kraft says Williamson hasn't been able to do.

Most of the people NBC 25 spoke with thought both candidates had highs and lows during this showdown, but the majority of this watch party hought one of the candidate clearly walked away a winner from this battle and that was Dayne Walling.

"I thought the debate was 100 percent Walling he answered the questions better and I thought he had a better plan for Flint," said Kraft.

Election day is November 6th.

I have only two things to say:
Williamson = Convicted Felon
Crime = 2nd Highest in Nation

Hmmm.....

Walling?

Those comments about Walling a winner and he answeed all the qustions fully, are you kidding me? did you see the same debate I did? he didnt answer any of the question at all he danced around each one with articulate language that made him sound smart, but hey I guess since he paid for that education why not use it right? I have taken a few political science classes so I can spot a politician dancing around questions a mile away. most of his answers were B.S. answers that a mayor can not do, bring jobs to flint? raise houseing prices? please, all those answers and promises only the governor and state legislators can actually do somthing about not a mayor, mayors just run the day to day business of the city, if jobs are gained (or lost in Flint's case) it is because of STATE level elected officals, not the local elected. I am not saying that Don is the answer eaither, I mean yea he is one heck of a business man but he does not have the finesse of a politician and the education level of a ninth grader with a very limited vocabulary which is why people believe Walling wone the debat but if they listen to what they were saying, Walling was dancing around the questions and Don was only stating what he has already done, not what he is planning to do. And both of them beat their horses to death the 28 million deficit that Don fixed and Walling complaining about old battles. I personally got tired of hearing those statments from both of them when each one got stuck in a corner. neither of the candidates won in my view.

Walling a winner

It was obvious from the debate that Mr. Walling is the better choice for mayor. Aside from the fact that Mr. Williamson avoided almost every issue and kept coming back to his streets and new trucks arguement, Williamson demonstrated that his inability to focus on a simple question could cost us jobs, grants, and people in a city where communicating clearly is a key factor. Mr. Walling has plenty of experience in getting things done. But Mr. Williamson seems to think if you haven't spent time in jail for what you beleve then you are just a young whippersnapper. To listen to Flint residents say that Mr. Walling won't be able to get the council together stuns me, like the current Mayor has done such a bang up job. It has come down to Mr. Williamson trying to tie the challenger to past politicos. If that arguement is appropriate, and I don't think it is, shouldn't we wonder what friends of Don's from prison are controling his office now? Come on Flint, wake up, we need to move into a new world and leave devisive folks like Mr. Williamson behind.
