Mosquitos love to breed in standing water. So, when that old used tire sits in the rain, it transforms into a big mosquito-maker.
This week the Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission is putting on its second tire drive of the summer in an effort to keep the mosquito population down in Mid-Michigan.
Every day this week crews will be accepting your used tires from 8:00am to 2:30pm at the following locations:
Monday, June 15 - Harry Browne Airport, 4821 Janes, Buena Vista Township
Tuesday, June 16 - Brady Township Hall, 16020 Peet Road, Brady Township
Wednesday, June 17 - TA Truck Stop, 6364 Dixie Hwy (Dixie at I-75), Bridgeport Township
Thursday, June 18 - Ric's Food Center, 176 Hemlock Plaza Drive, Richland Township
Friday, June 19 - Heritage High School, 3465 N. Center Road, Saginaw Township
Now, there are some restrictions. Tires will only be accepted from private individuals. They must be taken off rims. Oversized tires are not accepted at the tire drive site. Oversized tires are those whose height plus width is greater then 80 inches.
For disposal of oversized tires contact Mosquito Abatement to schedule a drop off at no cost directly at their facility during the Tire Drive week.
Only Saginaw county residents are eligible to drop off tires and each household is limited to 10 tires per week.
