MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) -- The Isabella County Building in Mount Pleasant is now flying the Michigan flag thanks to a 7-year-old girl who wrote a letter asking why the U.S. flag was flying alone.

A local paper reports the state and county flags were raised Wednesday with the help of Rebecca Collins-Pfeiffer, a student at White Pine Montessori School in Union Township.

Rebecca wrote a letter last month to Isabella County Commission Chairman David Ling, asking why the state flag wasn't flown at the government building. She wrote that the flag would remind residents to have pride in Michigan.

Ling did some research and found it once was believed the flagpole could only support one flag. But the facilities manager gave the OK to raise more flags.

Way to go, Rebecca. Makes me proud to be from Michigan with young people like you. How old does one have to be to run for governor?
