WATERTOWN, NY -- Jefferson County, New York officials have charged 21-year-old Andrea Kline with second degree murder and unlawful disposal of a body. Prosecutors say an autopsy shows Kline killed her newborn baby boy by smashing his skull. They say she then left the dead newborn inside a trash can at a Watertown, New York motel. Kline, who is from Flint, is a junior at Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo. It's unclear why she was in New York. She is in the Jefferson County, New York jail and is being held without bond. Police were called to the Best Western Carriage House Inn, in Watertown, Monday afternoon. Police found the baby boy dead in the trash can. Initially, Kline was charged with unlawful disposal of a body but once the autopsy results showed the baby died because of blunt force trauma to the head, prosecutors added the charge of second degree murder. Kline was arraigned on those charges Wednesday afternoon in a New York courtroom. On Kline's MySpace page, she says she graduated from Luke M Powers Catholic High School in 2004.

"Impulsive???"

Please, G.B., she had 9 months to think about it. Hardly implusive. And don't cry for her life which is "in ruins," cry for the murder victim.

whats her problem??

I believe this girl was battling with her beliefs about life, love, God, and family, and she must have felt at that moment that none of those things were strong enough to help her. her life wasn't going the way she wanted, her boyfriend was telling her one thing, she confessed on her webpages that she is Catholic but doesn't believe in God, and she probably felt there was no way she could tell her parents about being pregnant with no husband, because they probably are Catholic. Her situation seemed inescapable, yes, but all of you are right in saying that she did have other, better, options. She could have found a way for that baby to live. And no, Hillary Clinton will not pardon a baby killer just because she's a democrat.

Good Lord Indeed

I just want to add that the local hospital is literally just BLOCKS up the street from the hotel where this happened. Hotel is at 300 Washington St., Hospital is 830 Washington St. My heart goes out to her family, I know they must be absolutely devastated by this.

dear lord

I am baffled about this one. She makes me mad and upset. If she killed it by accident you still don't throw it in a trash can! And if the boyfriend was with her why is he not being questioned? maybe he had influence on her. No matter what it's a lose lose situation.

Good Grief

In response to "The Lum," she would NOT have been hailed a hero by democrats. Let's be honest here and stay on the right topic. What this girl did was both illegal and confounding (to say the least). I am in agreement with JC. And just how hard would it have been to put the baby in a basket and drop it off at a church? Now her life is in ruins because of one inexplicable impulsive (and terrifying) move.

Sad..

Ok maybe she would have been hailed for having an abortion. But would you want to be brought into this world to just die in a matter such as this? I mean there were other options this girl had instead of beating the babies head in.

Just remember...

had she killed that little boy just before he exited her, she would be hailed as a hero by the Democrats and others for excercising her reproductive rights. Hillary will probably pardon her if she wins.

Good God

There are plenty of people out there that would love to have a newborn child, I can't figure out what would make someone do something like this.. It makes me wonder what everyone around me might be thinking at that very moment, and it seems to me that a large number of people are just not in their right mind.. Who do you we trust? Very sad indeed!
