Some churches are fighting back after a self-proclaimed gay anarchist group stormed into a Mid-Michigan Church. It happened at Mount Hope Church in Lansing. The Eaton County Sheriff’s office was called in and is investigating.

Reports say that protesters were outside the church beating on buckets and using megaphones to shout “Jesus is a homo” as church-goers went in for morning services. According to those reports, half of the protesting group was dressed to blend in with the church-goers and entered the church.

Once inside they reportedly pulled fire alarms, handed out pamphlets and yelled at parishioners. They also were said to have stormed the pulpit and held up a large rainbow colored flag that read “It’s Okay To Be Gay! Bash Back”.

Catholic League President, Bill Donohue, fired back on Tuesday saying "This is astounding.  This is a Nazi like tactic to go into a church on a Sunday and disrupt service.  I don't care whether it's pro-gay, anti-gay; it has no legitimate role to play in a democracy, which is exactly why we've asked Mike Cox, Michigan’s Attorney General to investigate."

NBC25 was unable to get in contact with the group Bash Back, but will continue to try. On their website it says:

The Mount Hope Church is a deplorable, anti-queer mega-church in Lansing, Michigan. The church works to institutionalize transphobia and homophobia through several repulsive projects including organized “ex-gay” conferences and so-called “hell houses”, which depict queers, trannies and womyn who seek abortions as the horrors. Mt. Hope is complicit in the repression of queers in Michigan and beyond.”

NBC25 contacted Mount Hope Church for a response, but they could not comment due to the ongoing police investigation.  It did issue the following response:

"The leadership of Mount Hope Church does not attempt to identify the church as antihomosexual, anti-choice, or right wing. The church does take the Bible at face value and believes what the Bible says to be the truth. According to the Bible, Mount Hope Church believes homosexuality to be a sin, just as fornication, stealing, drunkenness, and lying are sins. No sin greater than the next."

NBC25 was unable to contact the courts and sheriff’s offices due to the federal holiday.

ACTIVISTS ARE DECEIVED

Posted by GRACE STANDISH, OHIO - Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 6:16 a.m.

Remember Nazi Germany: "When they came for the gypsies, I said nothing, because I wasn't a gypsy. When they came for the homosexuals, I said nothing, because I wasn't homosexual. When they came for the Jews, I said nothing, because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for me, and there was noone left to defend me." Gays are destroying our rights to free speech & association, not realizing when those rights are gone, we will ALL lose them. And once the commies are done using the gays, they will kill them. STUDY HISTORY and the communist manifesto, people! You are being USED to destroy your own freedoms!

I will pray for you all

I will pray for you all. God loves you, despite the destructive behaviour you exhibit, God still wants you to experience HIS love, and there is nothing more wonderful than that.

Bashbackers, forgiveness is yours, if you repent. Now would be a good time to do that.

In Christian love,

I am very persuaded this group’s tatics is to use all the ugly stuff out ther about gay bashing and angry opposers of their cause and wrongly pointing the finger at the “Church”. Consider these wise sayings and let's not this group fuel for thier fire.
But lets put this fire out by love, kindess, prayer.

Proverbs 6:14 NIV
who plots evil with deceit in his heart— he always stirs up dissension.

Proverbs 6:19 NIV
a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Proverbs 10:12 NIV
Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.

Proverbs 15:1 NIV
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:18 NIV
A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel.

Proverbs 16:28 NIV
A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.

Proverbs 28:25 NIV
A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.

Proverbs 29:22 NIV
An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.

Proverbs 30:5 NIV
"Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Reponse to Bash Back and Tobias Quinn

Posted by Someone Anonymous, Fort Wayne, IN - Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 8:56 a.m.

Tobias..I do what to respond on this one statement you made: "this begs the question: Why isn't your almighty (and, supposedly, mightily pissed off) God not smiting Bash Back? They're defying It, right?"

2 Peter 3:9
"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
AND
Romans 2:4
"Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?"

Bash Back YOUR RIGHT...Homosexuality is not a choice..I know I was in the life style..but it is not mine our your true indentity either..and God does not hate homosexuals, he loves them. He loved them soo much he clothed himself in flesh and came and lived amoung us and took our sins upon himself and nailed them to cross, suffered and died that we might have life. I know from first hand experience his love. It is his love that took me out of homosexulity and into a relationship with him. When I got born again I did'nt need a bible or sermen to tell me that homosexuallity was not God's will for me. The Holy Spirit that came to live inside me told me this. And I did'nt want it anymore..I wanted what God intended for me to be. The Holy Spirit revealed to me how good it is to be "fully male" and alot of my attitudes and what I thought a "man should be" was distorted thinking because of the way I grew up and all the world trys to tell us "how we should be". God is soo good and his plan for male and female is the perfect plan.

"Bash Back"

Posted by Amy Edelman, Santa Clarita - Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:21 p.m.

At this point, this country needs every ounce of anarchy it can get. The system we have has failed and if you truely love this country, and truely believe in the Constitution, you will fight against the institutions that are trying to teach our children that no one should be different and that things can't change because God will hate them if they stray from the path of the Lord. Despite what you may think, homosexuality is NOT a choice and just like I wouldn't lead a sermon on how one race is inferior to the other, no one should lead a sermon explaining that one sexuality is more righteous than the other. This "gay anarchist" movement is the first of many, i'm sure, and I look forward to the day that equality will be the victor in this infinite battle between bigotry and justice.

I wasn't going to say anything else here...

Posted by Tobias Quinn, College - Monday, November 17, 2008 at 8:53 p.m.

But LOLZ! No, the US was not founded on God's law.

1) What does that mean, exactly?
2) Historically, you're so very, very wrong. Not only is the Constitution the law of this land, but the Founders were primarily deists. In case you weren't aware, that's not a synonym for "Christian" - in fact, it's a lot closer to agnostic.
3) If God had anything to do with it don't you think it would have, um, been more obvious? I can't recall learning about plagues of locusts or dying firstborns in high school, and you'd think I would have payed attention to that. This begs the question: Why isn't your almighty (and, supposedly, mightily pissed off) God not smiting Bash Back? They're defying It, right?

Read a history book or two before you start spouting nonsense.

To the ex-gay who posted here: Though I do not know what they have done to you I am deeply sorry. Please, feel better and accept yourself for who you are. If you are straight, accept that; if you are bisexual, accept that; if you are gay, accept that; if you are a unicorn, hell, accept that, too. Live a good and happy life.

Bornagain former

I heard about this event on the radio and I was shocked it happened. And shocked there were no arrests. I am a former homosexually and yes I am bornagain. I guess I want to say that Jesus saved me from a gay life style. I believed a lie that this is who I was. I believed this was my identity. I was wrong. The Lord changed my heart to see my "true identity" in Him- A loved, forgivin, redeemed man of God.

Turns out the church lied about just about everything. The fire alarm was not set off, the protestors were asked by police to remove their vehicles from the church car park, and that's ALL.

Ok wait a minute.

Posted by T D, Iowa - Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 1:50 p.m.

I want to clear things up right now. The fact is you cannot be a christian and be gay. 1 Corinthians 6: 9-10 says that homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of heaven. For these people to storm into the church like this is terrible. This country was not founded on the constitution. It was founded on God's law which is the Bible. Marriage should be between a man and a woman. I want to pray for these people right now. Lord, help these people in this group. I pray that you will change their hearts and bring them to you. Each and every one of them. I pray for anyone who reads this that they too will see the truth. I pray for the politicians and law makers that they will not be scared by these protesters, that you will guide their decisions according to your word Father. Amen

You want a fight you got it.

I wonder how many of these unthinking individuals realize they have just opened a door which can create a situation where there will now be more hate aimed at the gay community? I cannot believe people in this country are so willing to endanger the lives of others. If they think there will not be counteraction taken, they are sadly mistaken, and the "rights" they claim they want, now may never happen as they attack communities who may very well hold the deciding votes. There was a time when I would have agreed to some of the rights the GBLT community is asking for, but if this type of action is to be expected, I can no longer support that stance. You do not reward individuals for uncivil behavior. I feel for those who do not want this type of group representing them, for now their peaceful actions will mean nothing.

Come now, O reasonable believers, let's have a civil discussion. You think your god is going to smite these heretical... "homos," was it? Let's start there.

-"Homo" is not a polite word. Neither is fag, for that matter. Don't make me start calling you breeders.

-Haven't you ever heard of queer Christians? Not all of us are atheist scum like me.

-Please stop eating lobster. It might bring about the end of the world.

-How dare the queers fight back using the same tactics as the "God Hates Fags!" crowd. We're violating your copyright. Bad queers! Bad!

-Using radical tactics never does anything for civil rights movements. Those feeding tubes from the suffrage era and the hoses from the '60s are all in your imagination.

-If we're all going to hell, can't you leave us alone until we get there? Really, what could you do that would be worse than being hit by falling fire for all eternity?

Anarchist Group

See they're an anarchist group, so they by definition do not care about the laws of god or men. And that's a good thing. So they're not going to run to mommy and press hate crime charges. It's called Bash Back because it's about taking Direct Action. You fascists aren't the brightest bulbs are you. Guess that's why you're in church.

Crossing The Line

Posted by Jim White, Darien, IL - Friday, November 14, 2008 at 12:38 p.m.

The key phrase in the survey question is "as they did." I had to vote NO, they did NOT have the right to protest 'as they did' because 'as they did' included going inside the church and disrupting a peaceful assembly. Had they stayed out on the sidewalk where so-called peaceful demonstrations are prescribed to take place, I would have voted in their favor.

I highly doubt that the angry gays would have stood still while protesting Christians stormed and disrupted one of there meetings or rallys. I'm sure that violence and bloodshed would have been the result.

I'm not exactly sure how the news report stated that the survey was 19% NO and 81% YES . . . were they looking at a different survey? This one shows just the opposite.

People, pay attention to the word "anarchist". These are anarchist tactics, not gay tactics. The protesters should have stayed outside. Interrupting church services is deplorable, not to mention counter-productive.

That said, I'm shocked at the number of posters who threaten violence. You may be sitting in the pews, but you're not paying attention (I realize, sadly, that maybe you are).

Before I turned my life over to the Lord there are things I was involved in the could be labeled hate crimes. I don't want to feel that way anymore, I have compassion and love for all, but to have the Devil control people and go up in God's house, I wouldn't stand by and tolerate it... May God have mercy...There is alotrunning thru my mind bbut I will hush and pray God forgive me for my cruel thoughts LOL

Salvation

Posted by Matt Bult, chicago - Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 6:34 p.m.

I sincerely hope that any of the protesters who sat in on the service were exposed to God's message of love and forgiveness. We have all sinned, we are all in same boat as needing forgiveness. Whether its cheating on your taxes, drinking too much, sexual immorality, or sinful hatred in your heart, you need forgiveness and salvation. My prayer is that anyone offended by this protest will forgive these protesters, just as they themselves need forgiveness, and that the protesters who appear to be angry and insecure, will find that the only way to have hope and true happiness is in the knowledge of salvation. Its never too late!

Our Freedoms

I am trying to understand why anyone would protest any religion in this country, regardless of what message they are spreading to their congregation. The fact is, Americans have the right to religion, which ever they choose. If you don't like a particular church, DON'T GO TO IT. Protesting someone's religious beliefs is a severe violation to their constitutional rights.

This is no different than when Christian radicals picket a Pride Parade and yell obscenities at queers and tell them they are going to hell. I've never heard of a gay person killing a straight person just cause they are straight... In fact, it is quite the opposite. THey didn't hurt anyone, they just did the same thing in that church that is done everyday to gay people around the country. People are sore about it cause they don't like tasting their own medicine.

Posted by Tobias Quinn, College - Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 4:02 p.m.

- This is not terrorism. No one was physically harmed in any way. To compare a non-violent protest to murder is pure hyperbole.

-Cry, you poor oppressed Christians who have all the power. Weep for the one time in your lives you had to listen to someone insult you. No, really, I sympathize. You see, every day I hear people whispering about how I'm icky, or inferior, or a sign of the apocalypse. I've been protested against and came out of it with a smile because the protesters were idiots. Why can't you keep your senses of humor if I can keep mine? Its not like your lives have ever been threatened by a terrifying group of loonies who dedicate far too much of their time to taking away your rights.

-Google "pink triangle" next time you get the urge to call queers Nazis. Also google "Godwin's law," just so you don't make the same faux pas again.

-Now, really, do you think one protest takes away your right to pray in peace? Do you really think that? Wow, that's pathetic. Come complain again when you're afraid to walk down the street wearing a cross, just like I'm afraid to walk down the street holding my girlfriend's hand. Then maybe I'll feel a smidgen of pity for you.

Guess this is a sermon...

Posted by Darbi Archer, Mississippi - Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 1:53 p.m.

I definitely don't think we should do this, but if "Christians" disrupted a homosexual convention by throwing confetti and Bibles at people and shouting 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 at them (which states, "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitues nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God")it would be all over the news and we would be horrible people. Yet, I've only seen a couple of media outlets report this. However, in the love of Christ, if you continue reading in 1 Corinthians, it says, (vs. 11) "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of God." Praise God! He is a LOVING God. We still must love them like Jesus. Hate the sin, but love the sinner. No sin is greater than any other. And, we have all sinned. It is only by the grace of God we are saved.

It is wrong to bash gays, they are people who need love like everyone else. But it is also wrong to compromise the Christian faith, which is very clear that the act of homosexuality is wrong.

But still...if BashBack tried that in my church, it would not end well for them. No one will disrespect the worship of Almighty God in my presence, and there are plenty of others with me.

Total Depravity

Posted by Rick Hess, Pa. - Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 11:07 p.m.

Mankind is born in sin and total depravity and is in need of a Saviour. Isaiah the prophet was told by God to warn the people of Israel and this warning is for us as well today.
Isaiah 58:1  ¶Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
The gay and lesbian, transgender, cross dressing lifestyle is totally a sin in light of the Holy Word of God.
We ask God to bless this great nation and then we turn around and committ these atrocious dispicable sins and then wonder why we are in such dire straits financially, and with our health and sicknesses. Is it any wonder that we are being punished by God for these lifestyles and the killing of babies and a lot more. Friend this country, as a whole, needs to repent of these sins and ask God to forgive us. This is the only way we will once again be a blessed and strong nation again. I say once again, America, REPENT or suffer the consequesces.

Posted by l b, not here - Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 10:59 p.m.

It is beyond blasphemy for the gays to spread their filfth in the Lord's house.
Just think if Christian's came into a gay bar spreading the message of the word? They would be lucky to make it out alive.
If a straight group acted as the gays did , in a CHURCH of all places (proving the Godlessness of the homosexual community) they would immediately be arrested for something hate crime related.

wikipedia - a source you can trust. NOT!

Posted by David Howell, San Diego - Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 6:47 p.m.

Reading the many comments we go to extremes it seems on both sides of the issue to make ones point I live in San Diego, married, three children, Vietnam Veteran, and not gay. But in all of this I have not yet seen anyone state truthfully without the bible exactly how being gay and being allowed to wed in a civil service really truly harms anyone. Oh yes I have read many different rants. But on a very personal level would someone please tell me from one day to the next how exactly it harms anyone? To my mind it does not impact the vow of marriage in a church if anything it seems to my mind to make that more special to those who choose it. Our new president was born at a time when his parents marriage was illegal in a lot of states across our land and the ranting then by the Christians and right wing (sorry really don't know what else to call you) were the same as the rants I read and hear today.

To the wikipedia submitter, First the sources are wrong a little digging in the internet will show that and ANYONE on the Net today knows better than to trust wikipedia sources, but I'll give you your stats and lets say that they are true, riddle me this please, how do those effect you? You personally are really hurt how exactly? Never mind footing the bills and all that crap, personally what changes in your life day by day? I do not find the behavior of entering a the way they did okay, it isn't in my mind though I think I understand it, hell I lived watching it through the 60's and 70's, with the woman movement and the black freedom movement, and the anti-war movement, all of whom would be called "terrorists" today. See I am a Vietnam Vet and believe it or not I would "defend to the death the right of a Christian to be ‘wrong’!" :-)Because actually, I already have defended the USA's right to be wrong. :-)

I came home to a world that had turned their backs on veterans, who stood at the airports and called us baby killers, who spat on us. And I did fight for freedom, Freedom for all people, Christian, Black, White, woman, man, gay...and yes even those who greeted us at the airports, freedom isn't real till we all have it IMHO. I support the right of gays to marry in a civil service. If the church doesn't want to marry them fine I support them as well. But the fact is, gays marrying does not change my life or anyone else, not in any way I still have to get up and go to work. Decide about the bills, work with my wife to continue to grow together as man and wife and on and on. Christians will still be Christians and if they really wanted to effect real hope across the land they would be better served preaching love and tolerance and not hate. I know this will never change anyone's mind, but having seen what hate will do and how that does impact human life my view is love and tolerance for all is better than than hate.

Bash Back Does Not Have The Right

Both sides have the right to speak for or against any policy or religious belief they have. The gay community overstepped their bounds when they went onto PRIVATE church property to protest. Any Attorney General in the country should prosecute on those grounds. Churches are Private Domains. Go protest on Public Property next time and even then it cannot impede normal activity and traffic flow

GLC, You claimed that the church is "anti-gay" because they hosted an ex-gay conference.. what's the matter with that? Or aren't people allowed to decide for themselves what they are? Or is gay like the mafia, where you can't think and decide for yourself?

Those people weren't "protestors", they are fascists, cowards. Persecuting religious people. In the US, it's a violation of the US Constitution to demean, harass and persecute the religious, the religious have rights stated in the constitution to free expression of their religious beliefs.

I have always supported gay rights, but no more. What the actions of these little nazi's have shown me is that the the extremists in the gay community are fascists, and racists. Until whatever sane people there are in the glbt community, purge the fascists and racists from it, I will not only not support gay rights, I will not support any politician, any company, and tv, movie, or music industry company that supports gay rights groups, and I will let them, and their corporate sponsers know.

Of course these people are wrong to plan this attack on the rights of others to assemble and pray. They do not understand boundaries at all. Privately or publicly. I have seen much since 2003 in Massachusetts and suggest all arm themselves with camera's from this day forth.. the bullies are at large..

Who needs G-d?

Yes, the poor, poor Christians. Always being scapegoated as intolerant when really all they want is to inform these poor degenerates about how disgusting they are, how "G-d hates Fags", and how their love for their fellow man demands that EVERY good christian take up G-d's light work and judge each and every homo for him.

I adamantly disagree with Bash Back's tactics, but I *do* think these "christians" deserve every bit of it.

Dear Will Calhoun - No One Has the Right to be Wrong

Posted by Jay Dickerson, Texas - Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 1:17 p.m.

“I will defend to the death your right to be wrong.”

This is a pious sounding platitude that recognizes your opponent as “wrong” while appearing to elevate yourself above such judgments, usually to preserve the debate for another day.

Let’s begin with an example everyone should agree on. If an elementary school teacher believes that 2 + 2 = 3, you can be sure that he or she will eventually teach it. If a students answers 2 + 2 = 4, he or she will be “corrected.” What if your banker was taught by that teacher? Are you going to say, “I will defend your right to be wrong” when your account is short?

To equate what you know to be wrong with what you know to be right is both foolish and destructive. In a short time confusion will reign and ignorance will be bullied into submission. Today homosexuals have bullied part of the public into submission. They are on the verge of obtaining the legal authority to punish anyone who speaks out against their agenda. The once magnanimous sounding phrase “I will defend to the death your right to be wrong” is becoming “I demand my right to punish you for being wrong,” other wise know as the Fairness Doctrine and ‘hate speech’ legislation.

Try to imagine a homosexual activist saying he would defend to the death the right of a Christian to be ‘wrong’! The activist understands that to validate his own position he must invalidate the opposition. Their method has been to use humor and sarcasm, labeling negative opinions as ‘homophobic.’ If the homosexual lobby achieves legal dominance you won’t hear, “I will defend your right to be wrong.” Neither will you hear any voices defending freedom of speech or freedom of association. Individuals who dare to speak out will find that their “right” has swapped the moral high ground with what is “wrong.” Not only will we have lost the right to express our opinion, but the right to even have a dissenting opinion will be criminalized. Many will find that the only right that remains is the right to remain silent. If we remain silent that will be the only right we deserve.

Sadly, many will remain silent because they don’t know why homosexuality is was wrong. They fear people will condemn them as hateful or homophobic. Someone might demand that they be legally “corrected.” After all, hateful opinions lead to hate-speech. Of course the legislature would to pass new laws punishing hate-speech because such speech can only lead to criminal acts. As a matter of fact, you cannot even think that homosexuality is wrong, let alone say so! Just remember, no one has the right to be wrong – do they!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_ISIS_Survey
The average life span a homosexual is 39 years. Fewer than 2% survive to age 65.
Homosexual men are:

-5000 times more likely to contract HIV/AIDS than heterosexual men.
-33% of homosexuals age 20 will contract AIDS by the time they are 32.
-76% of homosexuals have one or more STDs.
Lesbian women are:
-19 times more likely to contract syphilis than heterosexual women.
-2 times more likely to contract genital warts than heterosexual women.
-4 times more likely to contract scabies than heterosexual women.

Queers attack God's House

Where the parishiners asleep? If that was my church, they wouldn't have gone near the alter - fair warning-christians will fight to the death protecting Jesus in the tabrnacles! It's private property.

They are terrorists, plane and simple.

Posted by Rick Swartzentrover, Los Angeles - Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 11:38 a.m.

They are terrorists, plane and simple. No different then Al Qaida & should be treated as such. What will it take, a burned down church, a murdered pastor or white powder in the hymnals, before these terrorists are stopped. But then your new president is best friends with terrorists from the 70’s so I don’t think that will be stopped. Not one Liberal news station in L. A. covered this story. I guess the liberal media won’t cover law breaking gays, they just trash the church just like the christaphobic gays do.

funny...

they say they aren't anti-gay yet they hold ex-gay conferences....

you have got to be kidding

Posted by This is stupid, Marquette County - Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 8:07 a.m.

These guys had no right to do that whatsoever. It is one thing to exercise your rights of free speech and LAWFUL ASSEMBLY as well as to the right to PETITION the gov't for a redress of grievences but this kind of stuff is over the top. I believe that gays do have civil rights and should not be "bashed" or beaten, name-called and slurred and have the CONSTITUTIONAL rights as well as any other. They only hurt themselves when they do this sort of stuff .

Look at the Civil Rights movement, I dont see minorities storming anything and doing this sort of thing and look what we have in the White House. I hope those guys are all arrested and fined.

phunny

Posted by maid intheus, Michigan - Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 8:02 a.m.

What's hilarious is how a group can think something is correct but yet deny it.

What's even more hilarious is an anti christian trying to slander the christian in the midst of their own lack of forthrightness. It gets even more phunny when they portray themselves as a credible judge. This is like asking for everyone's respect but giving no respect to others.

This will be attempted while on others private property, because they think freedom, opinion, and a belief is only for some but not those who disagree.

They think they are above the law. We shall see.

This was unlawful. Yes, we all have the right to voice our opinion, but this was a private event. If this had been in the town square then they would have had to the right to protest, within the law. This was a church that they invaded. Read the Bible! Hate the sin-not the sinner.

This is typical of when people let their emotions control their actions

Posted by Jesus Is Lord, Flint - Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 11:24 p.m.

This is typical of when people let their emotions control their actions, which is what homosexual behavior is, really. People who have a desire and want the freedom to engage in that behavior without anyone pointing out that God said this behavior is a sin.

If one wants to engage in this behavior, it is between him/her and God, who will judge this behavior and all the other behaviors that are sins. Christians are not called to enforce Scripture on others, but we should warn those engaging in that behavior that they need a Savior (and not just because they are engaging in homosexual behavior - one's lying, stealing, coveting, and ignoring God are sins as well), and if a person wants help to escape from any bondage to sin, the church is a source for help.

By the way, the comment about the American Psychological Associations finding regarding homosexual behavior was to remove it as a "deviant" activity. This was after a tremendous lobbying effort and had nothing to do with "scientific" evidence.

In fact, studies show that people can change their "orientation" if they so desire or can control their desires, again if they so desire. Most other studies indicate that this is a developmental issue than a genetic or in-born one.

Gay anarchist group storms Church

Posted by John Doe, Saginaw - Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 11:18 p.m.

This group is not out of the gay mainstream. Gay groups in San Francisco have been desecrating Catholic services for years. The homosexual movement is not tolerant and they will continue to intimidate Christians. Since these gay groups deny biblical commandments, why should they care about what a church believes or says? If legal authorities want to keep the peace, they'd better press tresspassing and disturbing the peace charges. By the way, where's the ALCU? The church had it's civil rights violated--they are entitled to the free exercise of religion.

Maintain focus of the story

Posted by Will Calhoun, Mt. Pleasant, MI - Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 8:44 p.m.

Please, to all those reading this, keep focused on the story at hand! PLEASE. This is an article about fanatics who practice methods of protesting that are not deemed appropriate in our culture and society! And in many ways possibly [and other ways definitely] illegal [e.g. pulling of the fire alarms].

But that's it! Please don't make this a statement of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community as a whole. I am gay. My parents are Christian. I have many gay Christian friends, and we all would find these actions totally inappropriate, rude, and- where applicable- illegal. There are many ways to peacefully protest a group or institution. This act was not one of them.

I- and many friends of mine- participate in legal acts of discussion and protest among people. This should be decried by GLBTA (A= straight ally) groups as it diminishes communication between various pro-gay and anti-gay groups and those in between. I hope some discussion at least comes out of this circus Bash Back produced (I never heard of them prior to today).

And as far as I have found out, I have not found any other sources that confirm the Mt. Hope church is active in an ex-gay program [i.e. a program that states it can "cure" homosexuality; despite the American Psychological Association and other major medical groups that say orientation cannot be changed, and trying to do so, can even be harmful].

If it were to be found that the church were to promote and take part in these programs, I would hope that LGBTA groups would try some sort of communication with the church. But it is totally up to them to respond, and if they choose not to (which they have every right to do), then a PEACEFUL, LAWFUL protest could be initiated by groups against the church if they choose to (which they also have every right to do). However, they better do it in an appropriate way! Because our country and society has a funny way of looking at protests and how they are done.

A great one, for example, against the Westboro Baptist Church was done: http://www.readromaine.com/laramie/angel.htm

I just hope they use common sense and are passionate in the right ways. Unlike Bash Back. Good grief.

Can't A Christian Worship In Peace Anymore?

Posted by Cheryl Cohen, Hollywood, FL - Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 7:36 p.m.

I am outraged at the behavior of the pro gay rights group "Bash Back". I personally am straight, married, and a Born-Again Christian. As my Pastor once said, "It was Adam and Eve, NOT Adam and Steve in the Garden Of Eden!" I wish the Lansing Police Dept. would have been quicker at responding to the phony fire alarm. Perhaps the perpetrators would have been arrested. Sunday mornings are about going to worship service, singing, and hearing a sermon. This sacred time in one's week should not be compromised.

Harassment not protest

Posted by T Everham, Mt. Pleasant - Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 6:16 p.m.

This group is acting out in ways that I wouldn’t call “protest” but would rather label as harassment.
I’m a Christian, but I believe that equal rights for both straight and homosexual people, so as much as I am appalled by this group’s actions and would be just as appalled if it were a church bursting into one of their meetings and harassing them.
If you think back to histories most memorable and effective protests you don’t think of people screaming slurs and insults. I think of the Civil Rights Movement with the Sit-In protests or the Anti-War Movement of the 70’s with the image of a protester silently placing a flower in the barrel of a soldier’s gun. They made a statement and they brought about change.
Attacking others like Bash Back has done only angers people and I believe it turns possible supporters against what they hope to ultimately achieve, equal rights.

haha, this is awesome. what's really funny is the over-the-top hysterical reaction and outright lying about what happened coming out of the mouths of the christians.
