The Sloan Museum celebrates 100 plus years of making GM Dreams Reality. This is NOT another General Motors 100th Anniversary party celebrating the NEXT 100 years. This IS a celebration about GM’s Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow and the people who made it happen and will make the future happen as well. This celebration and exhibition of Arts, Cars and Stars is provided by Motorcities Dreamakers and Fifth Third Bank.
The cars represent the various eras of General Motors. The vehicles capture the pre-GM Buick of Billy Durant when Buick was the largest car builder in the world. The formation of GM in 1908 with the visionaries and the brass era of Vehicles and Art. They also demonstrate the growth and diversity of GM with the first “Woodies” and family convenience vehicles and art of the era.
No history or celebration of GM Dreams making would be complete without the Arsenal of Democracy. The Arts and history depict how GM switched its total manufacturing, design and personnel commitment to assist the war effort and preserving the American Dream. Truly an effort of great success and pride.
As the war years subsided, excitement and horsepower created new eras of vehicles and art that reflects the emergence of the Automotive Love Affair. The Muscle Car generation, the importance of Motorsports and GM’s affiliation with specialty companies such as Hurst and associations with NASCAR, NHRA, SCCA, BONNEVILLE and many others are well documented throughout the display.
The Today and Tomorrow Area reflect General Motors commitment to High efficiency vehicle alternate fuel and propulsion and vehicle systems.
Throughout the exhibit the truly “STARS” are the “PEOPLE”. They are the secret ingredient of General Motors, whether GM personnel, suppliers or dealers – they are the reason GM has been able to adapt and prevail – Yesterday, Today and tomorrow.
Art, Cars & Stars will be at Sloan Museum until January 11, 2009. For more information visit SloanLongway.org.
