University officials say the program was made possible for two main reasons.
The first was a $1.2 million donation from Dane and Mary Louise Miller which was used to build the Dane and Mary Louise Miller Life Sciences and Bio-Engineering Laboratory Facilities.
The second factor which helped bring the program to the university was the creation of Biochemistry Department.
Dr. Stacy Seeley, Pre-Med Coordinator says the addition of the medical program was natural progession.
"More young people today want to use their education to help people. They want to make a difference. They want to cure cancer and save lives."
Students who complete this program will receive a bachelor of science in their degree program along with a minor in Biochemistry which will prepare them for medical school.
Enrollment for the program started April 2008.
