There's a cold war going on in Mid-Michigan.
A local pastor is leading the effort to keep those in need warm this winter.
Pastor Keith O'Neal, who's been profiled as an NBC25 Hero, started the "If you don't wear it, share it" program.
He runsĀ RestorationNet.org.
"Initially, we got started, the weather was warmer, people didn't respond. Now, the weather is cold, people are calling, phones are ringing off the hook. We'll continue collecting clothes and help those in need," says O'Neal.
So far 1,500 coats for adults and children have been donated.
Now there's a big push for gloves.
"Most of us have walked those days without gloves, when your hands are cold, they are cold," says O'Neal.
Christina Adado owns the Avon store at Prime Outlets in Birch Run.
That is one place where people can drop off donations.
"We didn't always have a coat that fit, or boots that fit, but, we wore them. So, I'd like to help children that don't have them either," says Adado.
The first batch of coats and gloves will be handed out December 1st at 10 a.m. at 2006 Lewis Street in Flint.
