Winter weather is just around the corner and for some, colder weather means less activity and extra weight.

It's the reason why health experts at Hurley Health and Fitness in Flint are encouraging Mid-Michigan residents to get moving before the holidays get the best of them.

It's said that shorter days and longer nights induce feelings of depression, fatigue and cravings. The average person is known to gain between seven and twelve pounds during the winter months.

Trainers at Hurley say it's best to get a plan now but they tend to see membership numbers hike after the new year in hopes to work on that new years resolution of losing weight.

Danielle Campbell, trainer at Hurley Health and Fitness says, "the best thing to do is find an activity you enjoy doing outdoors or indoors."

Take it from 68 yo. Doris Early who works out at the gym six days a week. She's determined to not let the winter months get the best of her.

"There's so many things to do," Early says. "You can find things that you can do that makes you feel good and you'll slowly get in shape."

Eexperts say simply walking two to three times a week for thirty minutes will greatly reduce your chances of gaining those extra pounds over the holidays.
